Good visit to boot Düsseldorf

With the Sales team back in the office it is time to reflect on how our time went at the Düsseldorf Boat Show.

In addition to METS, held every November, Scanstrut have now added Düsseldorf to the calendar of events where we exhibit as a company.

With reports of a quiet London Boat Show, it seems that the guys organising Boot Düsseldorf have got it spot on and it was encouraging to see paying customers and heavy footfall across the 9 days of the show.

Busy times at boot Düsseldorf

Düsseldorf is a huge show. With 14 halls packed full of boats and marine equipment, you can see how they manage to attract the 250,000 reported visitors (up 4.3% from last year).

There are 1,571 exhibitors from 61 countries and 37% of customers come to the show to gather information on boat equipment and accessories.

Aside from the usual boats and equipment, there is the notable inclusion of alternative water sports such as kayaking, windsurfing and diving and these halls were packed with all ages making full use of the attractions such as beach volleyball and a large pool for pursuits such as kite surfing and stand-up paddle boarding.

From our point of view, as a retail show, we get to speak with a range of customers, from distributor, dealer-installer and retailer to end-user. It’s a great opportunity to gather feedback from our ultimate customers, and the Scanstrut stand had a steady flow of people who were delighted with our new product offerings including the updated Scanpod range.

Our Self-Levelling Radar Mounts and Deck Seals, both front of stand, gained the most attention as usual!

Reports from Scanstrut’s German distributors at the show were also positive with a number of sales being made.

Bernd Gröneveld of Raymarine Germany noted that the show was definitely a success for them:

“Many people have been on our stand with a real interest in Raymarine products and we have had a lot of orders from our dealers – slightly more than last year. Many Raymarine systems have been sold including compatible Scanstrut products such as the Levelling mount for sailboats and the Dual PowerTower for motor yachts. We are looking forward to a good season and anticipate being able to increase the sales of Scanstrut products as well “.

Stefan Klassen from Garmin Germany was just as positive:

“The boat show was very successful. We have won a lot of new dealers and our stand was always packed. We had better quality visitors on the stand this year and our new business with Bavaria will give us the right push for the new 2011 season. Everybody is very excited for the new season and my prediction is that the customers will spend more money than in 2010. Thanks again for the Scanstrut pods and mounts for our stand!”

Niko Reisch from Nordwest-Funk reiterated these sentiments:

“The Düsseldorf boat show 2011 was a good success for Nordwest-Funk. We had a lot of interest in Scanpods and also in mountings for antennas (poles and self levelling radar mounts).”

Boat shows like this are great. They get you out of the office and in front of your customers. Everyone is there with the same focus – to be part of the marine world whether that is selling, purchasing or simply just being involved.

With the boating season underway, the Scanstrut team will continue to be out and about. You will find a list of shows where we will be represented on our website www.scanstrut.com.

P.S. …and yes, the girls successfully made it back to Devon on Monday after driving the stand back from the show… all in one piece!
