The 2012 Show Season Round Up

It has been a tough year for everyone in the marine industry but the footfall at the shows has been positive and here at Scanstrut we are remaining optimistic for the up-and-coming season.

METS 2012 was once again a big success with visitor attendance totalling 19,617 and an unprecedented 43% of exhibitors already pre-booking stand space for 2013 before the end of the show.

For Scanstrut METS was a great event, it was great to meet new customers, as well as catching up with old ones.  We were very pleased to introduce the ‘new look’ Rok-Lok and our single instrument Scanpod range – both of which received excellent reviews from our customers.

The introduction of the Scanstrut and Lifedge Dealer Awards was a big success and have only strengthened existing customer relationships. Our stand was consistently busy so we’ve come away from the show feeling positive about 2013!

Both myself and Sarah, who has recently been promoted to the position of Scanstrut European Sales Manager, have been extremely busy visiting all of the major boat shows this season which has given us a good overview about the current state of the industry.

In general, most shows were down on exhibitor numbers and stand sizes. However, the feeling amongst exhibitors was that the enquiries were of a good quality, and that life is returning to the industry. METS continues to perform as an international show – the model of a well-organised, successfully promoted and strongly supported event.

Across the Atlantic, the USA marine market seems to be achieving a cautious recovery and the Annapolis shows were evidently more positive than the previous 2 years – with recorded visitors slightly up on 2011.

Over 500 new boat sales were made by BJT at the Paris Boat Show – extraordinary given the current French economy. Looking forward to 2013, London is clearly a show with problems that need to be addressed, but Dusseldorf is becoming increasing influential as a European and International event.

In summary, the general feeling is that the industry is still bumping along at the bottom, but there are very encouraging signs of improvement in both new boat sales and the retro-fit market. They say, when you can’t change the direction of the wind, adjust your sails….at Scanstrut, we continue to expand our product ranges, and invest in new product developments.

With the show season well underway, the Scanstrut team will continue to be present at all the major shows, whether exhibiting or attending, and we look forward to seeing you all there!
